Giving Back
community watch

Community Watch is an award-winning community safety service that encourages NYSEG employees to be extra eyes and ears for police and fire departments and other local authorities.

NYSEG employees who spend much of their work day in our communities help protect personal property, rescue those in danger and help save lives. Other businesses and organizations help out, too. Take a look at the stories below to see how our people have made a difference.

Towing assistance provided
Paul, a NYSEG line supervisor on his way to work, noticed traffic slowing down. He spotted an elderly woman who had pulled her car off to the side of the road. Paul pulled over to help out. The woman indicated that she had run of gasoline. She was visibly shaken from the experience. Indicating that he could help, Paul used a chain from his truck and towed her vehicle to the nearest service station.

Getting to the hospital
Sandy, a NYSEG senior forester, while driving to her job site, noticed an elderly man along the shoulder of the road, resting his head on a utility pole. When Sandy stopped to inquire about his condition, the man complained of chest pains. He and his wife were driving to the hospital for his post-heart surgery exam, but now they were lost and needed directions. He also said his wife was not feeling well. After getting their assurances that an ambulance was not needed, Sandy escorted the couple to the hospital.

Community Watch Businesses
Other businesses and organizations help out too, acting as extra eyes and ears in our communities, watchful to report anything out-of-the ordinary.
