SERVICE RESTORED TO 28,600 OF NYSEG MECHANICVILLE DIVISION CUSTOMERS WHO LOST POWER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mechanicville, NY, December 16, 2008 (4 p.m.) – An army of nearly 700 NYSEG, RG&E and contract line,  tree and support personnel is continuing to make excellent progress in restoring power in NYSEG’s Mechanicville Division. The peak number of customers who lost service as a result of the storm was approximately 34,000; approximately 5,400 customers are currently without power.
NYSEG expects to restore service to all customers by noon on Thursday.
“The magnitude of certain numbers illustrates the severity of the damage to our electricity delivery system from this storm, and the numbers dwarf anything we’ve seen in recent years,” said Mark Leta, NYSEG’s manager - regional operations. He said those numbers include more than 900 downed-wires incidents and more than 140 broken poles. Further, NYSEG has distributed 50 tons of dry ice and two tractor-trailer loads of bottled water to customers.
