FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Brewster, NY, October 7, 2009 (5 p.m.) – Strong winds with gusts exceeding 40 mph are sweeping through the area, resulting in power outages in NYSEG’s service area in southern Dutchess, Putnam and northern Westchester counties.  As of 4:45 p.m., approximately 7,500 customers were without power, primarily in the towns of Beekman, Bedford, Carmel, Putnam Valley, Somers and Yorktown.

Line crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible, and will work through the night and continue until all customers have their power restored.  NYSEG anticipates that most customers will have their power restored tonight, with all customers expected to have their power restored by mid-morning tomorrow.

Customers are reminded that downed power lines are dangerous. Even lines that appear “dead” may be deadly. Downed wires and other hazardous situations should be immediately reported to NYSEG at 1.800.572.1131.
