HELICOPTER PATROLS TO HELP NYSEG ENSURE RELIABILITY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rochester, NY, June 21, 2010 – Beginning this week and continuing through the summer, NYSEG will be inspecting high-voltage power lines from low-flying helicopters.

The first transmission line patrols will be this week in the Binghamton region, followed by the week of June 28 in the Hornell region, the week of July 5 in the Ithaca Region and the week of July 12 in the Brewster and Liberty regions. In the event of inclement weather the schedule will be pushed out.

“We will be conducting routine inspections of our transmission lines to help ensure safe, reliable delivery of electricity to our customers,” said Walt Matyjas, director - electric distribution at NYSEG and RG&E. “These high-voltage power lines are the backbone of our electricity delivery system and our goal is to spot potential problems and correct them before they inconvenience our customers.”

Matyjas said using helicopters makes inspecting the power lines quick and efficient, and the helicopters provide an excellent
vantage point.
