NYSEG Crews Continuing to Make Excellent Progress Restoring Power in Columbia and Rensselaer Counties

>> NYSEG urges customers to stay away from downed power lines – even lines that appear “dead” can be deadly. NYSEG customers should call 1.800.572.1131 to report downed power lines or other hazardous situations.

>> Emergency generators can be dangerous. Carefully read, understand and follow manufacturer’s instructions when operating an emergency generator. Never run emergency generators indoors; operate them only outdoors in well-ventilated areas and away from windows and doors.

>> Dry ice and bottled water will be available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Copake Fire Station (390 County Route 7A) and Taconic Fire Station (631 Old Route 82).

>> Shelters are open at the Taconic Fire Station and the Copake Community Center (Mountain View Drive).

Clifton Park, NY – NYSEG is making solid progress repairing severe storm damage to its electricity delivery system in hard-hit Columbia and Rensselaer counties in the company’s Mechanicville Division. Service has been restored to approximately 7,300 of the 9,000 NYSEG customers who lost power as a result of Monday’s destructive storm. Approximately 1,700 NYSEG customers are currently without power in Columbia (1,300 customers) and Rensselaer (400 customers) counties.

Based on the extensive and widespread damage identified through NYSEG’s now-completed damage assessment process, the company expects that all but approximately 200 of its customers who do not have power will have service restored by late this evening, barring unforeseen problems including inclement weather. Those remaining 200 customers, where damage to NYSEG’s electricity delivery system is most severe, will have service restored during the day on Friday.
