NYSEG and RG&E Employees to Help Local Agencies as Part of Iberdrola’s International Volunteer Day

Rochester, NY – More than 100 NYSEG and RG&E employees will be contributing their time and energy to community agencies in Binghamton and Rochester Saturday, October 15 as part of Iberdrola’s second annual International Volunteer Day. NYSEG and RG&E employees will be joining with their Iberdrola USA colleagues and Iberdrola colleagues in Spain, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Mexico to give back to their communities.

“NYSEG and RG&E have built a rich tradition of volunteerism over many years, generously contributing to the success of many organizations and causes,” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E. “Our employees’ work on International Volunteer Day will build on that tradition.”

NYSEG employees will be participating in the following community service projects:

• Boy Scouts, Tuscarora Scout Reservation, Windsor: Located on 1,100 acres around Summit Lake, Camp Tuscarora hosts Boy Scout programs, camping and hiking. Volunteers will be painting and splitting wood.

• The Discovery Center, Binghamton: Volunteers will be painting inside and working in the outdoor Story Garden at this children’s museum and creative play space.

• Tioga Opportunities Community Center, Owego: Tioga Opportunities, a need-based assistance agency, is providing flood recovery assistance for residents in an area who have experienced significant flood damage. Volunteers will be helping homeowners remove and replace damaged wall board and flooring.

• YMCA Broome County, Binghamton: Providing housing, childcare, and exercise and wellness programs for all ages, the YMCA had significant flood damage. Volunteers will be painting.

RG&E employees will be participating in the following community service projects:

• Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired Goodwill Industries, Henrietta: At this center that helps blind and visually-impaired people to be self-sufficient through rehabilitation, employment and training, volunteers will be sorting and organizing donated items.

• Heritage Christian Services, Webster: A nondenominational organization, this group offers horseback riding programs to children and adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteers will be cleaning the pasture, painting fences and doing general maintenance.

• Lifespan Wolk Older Adult Center, Rochester: Volunteers will be painting and doing general clean-up work for this organization that provides meals and educational and recreational programs to those who are 60 and older.

• Ronald McDonald House, Gates: Ronald McDonald House provides lodging and comfort to families of children receiving medical treatment at area hospitals. Volunteers will be loading trucks, moving furniture and assisting with a bag sale that is part of the annual “House Sale,” the organization’s largest fundraiser.

As an extension of International Volunteer Day, NYSEG and RG&E employees have also been collecting food for local food pantries since early October.
