NYSEG and RG&E RECEIVE EEI’S 2012 EMERGENCY RECOVERY AND EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE AWARDS
Washington – Edison Electric Institute (EEI) today honored NYSEG and RG&E with the association’s 2012 Emergency Recovery and Assistance Awards for their efforts to restore power to customers and then help other electric utilities following Hurricane Sandy.
These awards have been presented each year since 1998 to EEI member electric utility companies. The Emergency Recovery Award recognizes extraordinary efforts undertaken to restore electrical service following severe weather conditions or natural events. The Emergency Assistance Award recognizes extraordinary efforts undertaken in restoring electric service to another utility company that has been disrupted by severe weather conditions or other natural events.
The awards were presented during EEI’s Winter CEO meeting.
“NYSEG and RG&E faced a major restoration effort following Hurricane Sandy,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “Getting the lights back on quickly and safely is never easy following these natural disasters. It takes strong commitment, advanced planning, and great execution. NYSEG and RG&E responded with all three. They’re great examples for the nation’s electric power industry. I congratulate them.”
“Further, through the industry’s mutual assistance program, NYSEG and RG&E crews were essential in helping their fellow utility companies restore service. Importantly, this assistance also shows their compassion in helping others in their time of need,” Kuhn said.
“We very much appreciate this recognition from EEI,” said Mark S. Lynch, President of NYSEG and RG&E. “Our continuing commitment to safe, reliable service was clear after Hurricane Sandy, and our employees did a tremendous job repairing damage to our system across the state.”
