NYSEG and RG&E Taking to the Sky to Help Ensure Safe, Reliable Service

Binghamton, NY – NYSEG and RG&E, subsidiaries of Iberdrola USA, will be inspecting certain high-voltage power lines from low-flying helicopters over the next eight weeks.

Work will begin in NYSEG’s Oneonta and Liberty divisions this week; move to NYSEG’s Brewster and Binghamton divisions; then to NYSEG’s transmission lines between Homer City, Pennsylvania and Western New York; and finally to the Rochester region. The work is weather dependent.

“We are conducting routine inspections of our transmission facilities to help ensure safe, reliable delivery of electricity to our customers,” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E. “These high-voltage power lines are the backbone of our electricity delivery system. Our goal is to spot potential problems and correct them before they inconvenience our customers.”

Lynch said helicopters provide an excellent vantage point for quick and efficient inspection of transmission lines.
