NYSEG and Lockheed Martin Teaming Up to Test Aerial Damage Assessment Imaging

Binghamton, NY – NYSEG, a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, and Lockheed Martin are working to determine how video imaging obtained from a low-flying helicopter could assist utilities in collecting information on damage to electricity delivery systems following storms. Detailed damage information is critical to developing power restoration plans that ensure safe and efficient restoration of service.

This week or early next week, depending on the weather, Lockheed Martin will test the video technology along NYSEG distribution circuits in and around the Village and Town of Owego, north of Owego (generally along Route 38), Apalachin and in the vicinity of NYSEG’s training facility on Reynolds Road in Johnson City.

“We are pleased to be working with Lockheed Martin on this application that could provide invaluable assistance to us in responding to storm emergencies,” said Mark S. Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E.
