NYSEG Employees Earn Patriot Awards Following Nomination by Co-Worker

Brewster, NY – Six employees in NYSEG’s Brewster office have earned recognition from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a U.S. Department of Defense office established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers.

Raquel Mercado, manager - regional operations; Kathleen Abels, manager - community outreach and development; Bill Billings, supervisor - construction and maintenance; Tom Lennon, acting line supervisor/chief line mechanic; Gary Tiso, chief line mechanic; and Charlie Anderson, chief line mechanic were nominated for Patriot Awards by Technical Sergeant Thomas F. Priolo, a first class line mechanic in Brewster and a member of 105th Civil Engineer Squadron with the New York Air National Guard’s 105th Airlift Wing at Stewart Airbase in Newburgh. Priolo is currently in Texas for training and he will then be deployed.

“We are proud to support Tom and wish him all the best in his service to our country,” said Mark S. Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “We also congratulate the recipients of the Patriot Awards.”

The awards were presented by Major General Patrick A. Murphy, adjutant general for the New York National Guard last Friday.

Employees serving in the National Guard or Reserve or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member may nominate individual supervisors and bosses for support provided to the nominating service member and his or her family. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Citizen Warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.

In addition to Priolo, active NYSEG employees in Brewster who are veterans include: Ed Acken, chief line mechanic, Army; Judy Aventurato, field service representative, Navy; Don Bissonette, supervisor - substation operations, Marines; Matt Burgus, first class line mechanic, Navy; Warren Gordon, meter reader - collector, Army; Mike Kelly, chief gas fitter, Marines; Ralph Napolitano, chief line mechanic, Army; Andy Krajewski, first class line mechanic, Army; Fred Veitinger, chief utility construction and maintenance mechanic, Air Force; and Rodney Ward, chief line mechanic, Army.
