NYSEG Offers $5,000 Reward for Information Leading to Arrest and Conviction of Copper Thieves

Lancaster, NY – NYSEG, a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for a rash of recent copper thefts from company substations in Western New York.

“In addition to putting themselves in grave danger, the perpetrator or perpetrators are endangering our workers and the public,” said Mark S. Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “While we will continue to work with law enforcement to apprehend those responsible, we are also offering the reward to encourage the public to assist us.”

NYSEG has experienced numerous incidents of copper theft this year in Western New York.

Anyone with information regarding the copper thefts should contact Aaron Anderson at the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department (AAnderson@wyomingco.net).

Anyone who sees suspicious activity around NYSEG facilities, especially substations, should contact local law enforcement.
