NYSEG Launches NYSEG Smart Solutions Online Store in Tompkins County

Store makes it easy for customers to take advantage of energy-efficient products and services

 

ITHACA, NEW YORK — October 2, 2017 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE:AGR), has launched NYSEG Smart Solutions, an easy-to-use online store that gives Tompkins county customers access to energy-efficient products, instant rebates, and a network of experienced, certified energy services providers. The store is specifically designed to bring customers more choices for saving energy and money, improving the comfort and safety of their homes and small businesses, and reducing the community’s carbon footprint. 

Through NYSEG Smart Solutions, customers can browse, compare, and securely purchase energy-efficient products, sign up for services, and take advantage of instant rebates that are offered on many products. This makes it more affordable to save energy, such as on smart thermostats that allow you to remotely control your energy usage while home or away through apps on your devices, and LED light bulbs. Customers can also seamlessly connect with qualified local contractors to have energy assessments or energy efficiency upgrades done on their home, install solar, or participate in community shared solar throughout the county. Available tax credits make switching to solar an affordable choice in renewable energy.

NYSEG Smart Solutions replaces the existing YesHomeSolutions online store, which was launched in January 2017 and proved that consumer interest in energy efficiency and renewable options is high. Already, more than 500 NYSEG Tompkins county customers have either purchased or signed up to learn more about available offerings. NYSEG Smart Solutions brings more capabilities to the online site, such as order and shipping confirmations, and will have the ability for customers to share their energy usage data with service providers of their choice. Additional functionality will continue to be added to further enhance seamless customer experiences, including one-click enrollment in demand response programs and pricing plans. Product and service offerings also will evolve over time, including options for business customers.

“Shopping for energy products and services can be confusing and complicated. We’re making it easy for our customers so they can feel more secure and in control when taking advantage of energy efficiency options,” said Jennifer Turner, program manager, NYSEG Smart Solutions. “NYSEG Smart Solutions helps customers compare offerings, select from energy providers that we’ve vetted and who are certified to perform work in a quality manner, and take advantage of financing options.”

The online store is a key offering within NYSEG’s Energy Smart Community (ESC), a series of innovations that is providing customers with more choices for managing their energy, and the community with a stronger, smarter, and more secure energy grid. The company selected the City of Ithaca and surrounding towns in Tompkins County as its first Energy Smart Community to launch its smart meter installations — which help to automate the process of collecting and sharing energy usage data — along with a host of programs and projects linked to New York’s Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) initiative. The lessons learned through the ESC will be used to guide the roll-out of smart meters and smart-metered-enabled services to all NYSEG and RG&E customers over the next few years, pending approval by state regulators.

The online store has been developed in partnership between NYSEG and Simple Energy, the leading provider of utility-branded marketplaces, with more than 25 million customers served.
