NYSEG Continues Restoration Efforts in Brewster and Liberty Divisions


BREWSTER, NY — March 5, 2018, 10:00 p.m. — NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc., continued to dispatch all available resources working to restore service to customers and today was able to address and repair all transmission and substation issues serving customers in the Brewster and Liberty Divisions. A workforce of more than 2,000 continues storm response efforts including repairs to downed power lines and broken poles and the removal of tree limbs. The company also announced today that an additional complement of more than 300 line workers from other operating companies and contractors will be available Tuesday to advance restoration efforts. NYSEG is focused on its estimated time of restoration, Tuesday evening at 11:45 p.m., when it plans to have 90% of customers in Delaware, Dutchess, Putnam, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties restored.

“This storm was significant in the number of downed power lines, broken poles and damage to critical infrastructure encountered throughout the Brewster and Liberty Divisions. We’ve made steady progress and continue to focus all available resources on our restoration target of 90% restored tomorrow evening in our remaining affected areas. Statewide, we have restored service to more than 134,000 customers, and we remain dedicated to returning power to all of our customers as quickly as possible,” said Carl A. Taylor, President and CEO of NYSEG.

Workers have been busy tackling more than 1,683 downed wires and 223 broken poles in the two divisions. Today as of 9:30 p.m. this evening, 1,420 wires and 160 poles were repaired. To date, we have restored power to approximately 43,000 customers, nearly half of the customers affected in the two divisions.
