NYSEG Announces Estimated Restoration Times for Customers in the Brewster and Liberty Divisions
BREWSTER, NEW YORK — March 8, 2018, 9:30 p.m. — NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), crews and contractors continue restoration work after a second winter blast blanketed the region with an additional 10-16 inches of heavy, wet snow resulting in further damage to the electrical infrastructure. As of 9 p.m., approximately 11,000 customers are without power in the company’s Brewster and Liberty divisions as a result of the two storms. Since 4:30 a.m. Thursday, NYSEG has restored power to nearly 25,000 customers in the two divisions. Since the first storm hit, power has been returned to more than 180,000 customers across the company’s service area. NYSEG has restored power to 99% of customers in the Liberty Division and expects to return power to at least 90% of customers in the Brewster Division by 11:45 p.m., Saturday, March 10.
Restoration crews have been hard at work addressing over 2,700 downed lines and 373 broken poles in the two divisions including the hardest hit areas in Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, and Sullivan counties. The National Guard has deployed 40 personnel to NYSEG and is providing road security for downed lines. Crews are working day and night to make repairs and restore service to the remaining customers without power as quickly as possible. The company also continues to monitor weather forecasts that call for additional snow in other areas of the State.
Customers who have an outage and do not see their street address listed on the outage page should report their power outage online at nyseg.com or by calling 1.800.572.1131. NYSEG encourages everyone to stay away from downed power lines. Lines that appear dead can be dangerous. The company has additional safety information including available shelters, warming centers as well as dry ice and bottled water locations at NYSEG.com and on the company’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
