Mechanicville Central Avenue manufactured gas plant site

The Mechanicville Central Avenue manufactured gas plant (MGP) site is in the city of Mechanicville at 85 North Central Avenue.  The site is bordered on the north by the Anthony Kill, on the south by Ferris Lane, on the east by North Central Avenue and on the west by private property.  The MGP operated from 1901 until 1955, producing gas using the carbureted water gas process.  From 1955 until 1990, NYSEG used the site as an electric and natural gas operations center.  Several site buildings were demolished in 1992, and another in 2008.  Only one building - which was the mechanic shop and repair building associated with the MGP and then the electric/natural gas operations center - remains at the site.
