Giving Back
mentoring and shadowing

Job shadowing and mentoring at NYSEG are great ways to help students explore different career paths before they choose a career. By supporting job shadowing and mentoring, we help students discover career opportunities right here at home. That’s good for business and good for the community.

Job Shadowing
Students have the opportunity to observe and, where practical, participate in a typical business day with NYSEG volunteers. This helps students learn about career options, see connections between school and the world of work, and map a direction for their future.

Job Mentoring
Through job mentoring, students establish a longer-term work arrangement with NYSEG volunteers. Students spend time not only learning what a specific career area is like, but also engage in discussions with their mentor about skill sets, education and training and work practices.
