NYSEG Taking to the Sky to Help Ensure Safe, Reliable Service
Binghamton, NY, July 5, 2012– NYSEG, a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, will be inspecting its high-voltage power lines from low-flying helicopters for approximately one week beginning today in the company’s Ithaca Division. This includes all or portions of Cayuga, Chemung, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga and Tompkins counties. In the event of inclement weather the schedule will be pushed out.
“We are conducting routine inspections of our transmission lines to help ensure safe, reliable delivery of electricity to our customers,” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E. “These high-voltage power lines are the backbone of our electricity delivery system. Our goal is to spot potential problems and correct them before they inconvenience our customers.”
Lynch said using helicopters makes inspecting the power lines quick and efficient, and the helicopters provide an excellent vantage point.
