NYSEG Taking to the Sky to Help Ensure Safe, Reliable Service
– A helicopter will be taking to the sky in the Binghamton area over the next three weeks to assist NYSEG in its continuing efforts to provide safe, reliable electricity service.
As weather permits, Rotor Blade LLC, a NYSEG contractor, will be pruning trees along transmission rights of way in Chenango Bridge, Morningside Heights, Hillcrest, Port Dickinson, Sanitaria Springs and Center Village/Harpursville using a special saw that hangs beneath a helicopter.
“Trees coming into contact with power lines is the leading cause of power interruptions,” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E. “Using a helicopter to spot and prune vegetation along transmission lines is a fast and efficient way for us to address potential problems before they cause interruptions and inconvenience our customers.”
