Project Description
Following are the steps most often required by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in the investigation and remediation of a former MGP site:
- Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study
- Interim Remedial Measures
- Record of Decision
- Remedial Design and Construction
The Cortland-Charles Street remote gas holder location (hereinafter referred to as the site) is now in the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study phase of the process.
Remedial Investigation Summary:
- The only impacts to soil appear to be a thin layer of silt that is stained coal tar byproducts. The silt layer is located approximately 9.5 to 11 feet below the ground surface and appears to be located within the footprint of the former gas holder.
- No detectable levels of volatile or semi-volatile organic compounds were present in groundwater beneath the site.
- Soil vapor intrusion testing at the two residential homes on the site indicated that soil vapor intrusion was not occurring.
