Funded by employees, retirees and customers, Project SHARE helps eligible customers pay for energy emergencies such as fuel bills, repairs to heating equipment, home weatherization and water heater replacements.
To receive Project SHARE financial assistance, a member of a household must be 60 years of age or older, or have a disability or a serious medical condition, or be an active duty service member regardless of income, or be a non-HEAP eligible family with an income that does not exceed 5% of the regular or emergency HEAP guideline, whichever is greater, and have an energy emergency.
The American Red Cross administers the program by receiving applications, determining eligibility, and distributing the funds. Each dollar donated helps someone in need. Since 1982, local Red Cross chapters, along with other agencies across the state, have helped Project SHARE distribute millions of dollars to thousands of families facing energy emergencies - and the need continues to increase. Contributions are tax deductible. More than $6.9 million has been distributed to more than 33,000 customers since the program began.
Three ways you can give:
- Through Automatic Giving, have NYSEG add a whole dollar amount to your future
NYSEG bills.
- Add exactly $1, $2 or $5 to your next NYSEG bill payment. We will forward the money to the American Red Cross.
