New York Climate Resiliency Plan
In February 2022, Governor Hochul signed a law requiring electric utilities to submit to the NYS Public Service Commission (PSC) a Climate Change Vulnerability Study (CCVS) by September 22, 2023. The purpose of the study was for each utility to evaluate their infrastructure, design specifications and procedures to understand potential vulnerabilities to climate-driven risks. Following completion of the study, each utility is required to submit a Climate Change Resilience Plan (CCRP) within 60 days that addresses the results of the study. The PSC will have 11 months to review the CCRP and approve or modify the plan. Each utility must file an updated CCRP with the PSC for approval at least every five years.
NYSEG is committed to upgrading and modernizing its aging infrastructure to continue providing the best service to customers. This includes building a network that is reliable, resilient, and able to better withstand the impacts of climate change, including more frequent and severe weather events. We recognize the importance of preparing for climate change impacts and New York’s efforts to aid in that goal.
Climate Resilience Working Group
In 2022, NYSEG formed a Climate Resilience Working Group (CRWG) comprised of various stakeholders from across the Companies’ service territories. This group meets at least twice annually to discuss a variety of topics involving the development and implementation of the Companies’ resilience plan. If you would like to join the working group and be included in future meetings, please email us at NYSEG.RGE.PublicAffairs@avangrid.com.
