NYSEG and RG&E Programs Help Customers Save Energy, Reduce Costs and Improve Carbon Footprint
Programs offered to residential, small business, and commercial customers to help generate energy savings and promote energy efficiency
BINGHAMTON, NY — April 20, 2021 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) today released information about the companies’ energy savings programs that help reduce customers’ energy costs. Through the utilization of new technologies, these programs contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and CO2 in our environment.
“Our energy efficiency programs help our commercial, industrial, small business, and residential customers reduce their carbon footprint and maximize efficiency to help lower costs,” said Michael Del Negro, Supervisor of the Conservation and Load Management program at NYSEG and RG&E. “Completing simple tasks like using LED lights or properly insulating buildings can have a positive impact on your budget and the environment.”
The program that generates the most energy savings annually is the Non-Residential Prescriptive Electric Program. This program, and other non-residential rebate programs, offer incentives to commercial customers to improve the efficiency of their facilities. These efficiencies are achieved through the installation of new, high-efficiency technologies and equipment such as customized lighting, lighting controls, insulation, heat recovery systems and energy management systems. In 2020, this program generated a gross savings of more than 40,000 Megawatt hours in for NYSEG customers and more than 17,000 Megawatt hours for RG&E Customers. Combined, the greenhouse gas emission reduction is the equivalent of taking more than 8,700 cars off the road according to the EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator.
There are several other programs such as the Small Business Direct Install Program, the Residential Electric Rebate Program, the Appliance Recycling Program, and the Energy Marketplace that all contribute to these savings.
At home, using LED lights and smart thermostats is an easy way to manage energy use. In fact, many of these products can be purchased through NYSEG and RG&E customer marketplaces. Many products are eligible for instant rebates. To learn more about these tips and the energy savings programs available for residential and business customers, NYSEG customers should visit NYSEGsmartsolutions.com and RG&E customers should visit RGEsmartsolutions.com.
“It isn’t just large facilities that contribute to these savings, our residential customers play a pivotal role in this effort as well,” said Del Negro. “Residential customers have access to instant savings and rebates through our marketplaces and can do their part in reducing energy consumption and maximizing efficiency.”
Through all the programs combined, NYSEG and RG&E gross electricity savings were more than 137,000 megawatt hours in 2020. This savings is equivalent to nearly 11,700 homes’ energy use for an entire year.
