NYSEG Completes Upgrades in Pawling, Increasing Reliability for Thousands of Customers

The Pawling 509 circuit has been relocated out of a heavily wooded area

BINGHAMTON, NY — November 19, 2021 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) announced today it has completed upgrades to its 509 circuit, which delivers power to customers’ homes and businesses, as part of the company’s commitment to provide safe and reliable service to customers. The upgraded circuit now provides increased reliability to more than 4,600 customers in the town of Pawling.

NYSEG moved a section of the Pawling 509 circuit, running along Route 22, from a heavily wooded and poorly accessible area to the shoulder of the northbound side of Route 22. This section of circuit is a tie point between two substations and four circuits; two at the Haviland Hollow Substation and two at Pawling Substation. NYSEG conducted tree trimming on the northbound shoulder of Route 22 to facilitate the construction of the new line and replaced 14 poles starting near Akindale Road to the south to Fenwood Drive to the north — a distance of about 2,400 feet. The project began in September 2021.

“We are pleased to provide improved reliability to our customers in Pawling with these completed upgrades to the circuit,” said Richard Schmoll, NYSEG project manager, Brewster Electric Operations. “Previously, the circuit was subject to frequent outages caused by tree damage because of thick vegetation and extremely challenging foot and vehicular access. Now, our crews can much more easily identify proactive tree trimming opportunities and assess and repair damage.”
