NYSEG Thanks Customers for Reducing Natural Gas Usage Overnight, Company Monitoring System as Repairs Continue

Binghamton, N.Y. — December 30, 2020, 3:30 p.m. — New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) is thanking customers in Chemung County who voluntarily reduced natural gas consumption over the last 24 hours in response to the company’s request to ensure safe delivery of natural gas service. Affected customers can resume normal use of natural gas service.
  
NYSEG continues to work with Corning Natural Gas as they make repairs to the system and take interim steps to increase natural gas flow that feeds NYSEG customers in Chemung County. The request came after an issue was identified by Corning Natural Gas which impacts NYSEG natural gas delivery to several municipalities. The affected communities are: Town of Ashland, Town of Big Flats, City of Elmira, Town of Elmira, Village of Wellsburg, Village of Elmira Heights, Town of Southport.

NYSEG continues to monitor the system as repairs are being made. NYSEG will update customers and community leaders as repairs are made and asks customers to remain on alert for any further updates or appeals for voluntary reduction of natural gas usage.

As a safety reminder, in the event of a natural gas emergency, customers should contact NYSEG at 800.572.1121 or 911 from a safe location. Customers should ensure functionality of their CO detectors and replace batteries as needed.
