BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — July 21, 2026, 3:30 p.m. — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) is responding as another round of severe storms move through the region. Current forecasts have called for scattered thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening. Strong wind gusts of up to 65mph are possible in some areas, which can create the potential for downed trees and limbs, infrastructure damage and extended outages.
Currently, there are approximately 3,860 outages across NYSEG territory. The Binghamton division, which includes Broome, Chenango, and Tioga counties has the most impact with just over 3,300 customers without power.
More than 400 field service personnel have been working across the region to restore power after this past weekend’s storm event and remained engaged, ready to respond to the next severe weather threat. The company’s storm readiness team has been monitoring weather forecasts, planning, readying crews and equipment, mobilizing employees for storm duty and having additional contract tree and line crews ready to help restore service should outages occur. Crews will continue working to restore power to all customers.
How to Stay Up-to-Date
NYSEG will continue to provide updates throughout the event to the general public on the companies’ social media channels (Facebook and X). The companies also offer customers the following reminders to stay safe if power outages do occur.
NYSEG urges customers to remain away from storm debris as it may contain downed wires or other damaged equipment. Customers should assume all downed wires are energized and dangerous and should be reported by calling NYSEG’s emergency line at 1.800.572.1131 or calling 911.
