New Transformer Installed at Bath Substation
New transformer improves capacity and reliability to more than 4,700 customers
Part of plan to invest $146 million to upgrade substation
BINGHAMTON, NY — November 18, 2025 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) has installed a new 56 MVA transformer at the Bath Substation. This substation improvement will help improve energy capacity and reliability to more than 4,700 customers in Steuben County.
“This is the latest in our efforts to strengthen our grid and meet the energy needs of today and tomorrow,” said Marc Geaumont, president of NYSEG. “From HVAC systems and sump pumps to life-saving equipment, the need for reliable electricity is vital to serve peoples’ everyday lives. We remain committed to supporting our customers in Bath, its surrounding communities, and all customers in our service areas.”
The transformer is located inside the substation on Selleck Road. This substation was originally built in 1928 and the previous transformer has been in service since 2003. NYSEG has additional plans to rebuild the substation beginning in 2026. The new substation will accommodate additional circuits, two transformers, a new control house, and other electric infrastructure. These upgrades are estimated to cost approximately $146 million, with plans to finish the upgrades in 2030.
“We applaud NYSEG’s infrastructure investment in Steuben County,” said Kelly Fitzpatrick, chair of the Steuben County Legislature. “As we approach 2026 and the mandates set forth by the CLCPA, the ability to meet the demand for electricity is crucial to our community.”
