8:00 PM NYSEG Crews Close to Restoring Remaining Customers without Power

Remaining outages expected to be restored later today

Crews will remain engaged, following up on work completed through next week

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — July 5, 2025 — 8:00 P.M. — New YorkState Electric & Gas (NYSEG) is closing in on restoring the remaining customers without power from Thursday’s severe thunderstorms. In total, more than 75,000 customers lost power during the storm. Currently, approximately 2,000 customers remain without power, mostly in the Binghamton division, which includes portions of Broome, Chenango, and Tioga counties. Customers can expect to have power restored by 11 P.M. as crews are actively completing final repairs to the remaining transmission line damaged by this extreme storm. There are a small number of customers who are fed power through Pennsylvania who remain without power as another utility finishes their work; their crews are actively making repairs. Our crews will remain engaged with those customers to continue restoration efforts.

Crews Saturday focused on restoring approximately 4,000 customers in the Town of Maine that were without power due to severe damage to the transmission line located off-road in hard-to-access terrain. Workers didn’t just focus on restoration, but also on improving infrastructure for this transmission line, replacing broken wooden poles with steel ones, thereby strengthening the grid for future storms.

In total, more than 280 field service personnel were brought in to work across NYSEG’s heaviest impacted division to restore power, with 132 crews added to assist in restoration. Most storm-impacted customers were restored Friday night.

Crews will remain engaged to complete the most difficult restoration incidents and conduct system aerial inspections Sunday through next week to review the system by air and ground to make any necessary further permanent repairs.

After Restoration

NYSEG encourages any customer without power after restoration is complete to contact the Company at 800.572.1131 to report the issue and allow crews to investigate. Once every customer is restored, the Company will continue to fix remaining damage that occurred but did not affect customers or the reliability of service. That will then be followed by a full system sweep of all affected circuits to look for damage or issues that may have been missed but that could cause service disruptions in the future, such as tree limbs on power lines or leaning trees.

NYSEG will continue to provide updates throughout the event to the general public on the Company’s social media channels (FacebookInstagram, and X). The Company also offers customers the following reminders to stay safe if power outages do occur.

NYSEG urges customers to remain away from storm debris as it may contain downed wires or other damaged equipment. Customers should assume all downed wires are energized and dangerous and should be reported by calling NYSEG’s emergency line at 1.800.572.1131 or contacting 911.
