NYSEG Completes Full Rebuild of Milo Substation to Strengthen Grid in Yates County
New substation replaces decades-old facility and improves energy capacity and reliability
Updates increase reliability for 850 customers, including Penn Yan Airport
PENN YAN, N.Y. — August 25, 2026 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) has completed a full rebuild of the Milo Substation in Penn Yan. The updates will increase reliability, resiliency, and capacity for 850 customers, including Penn Yan Airport. This project was made possible with funding from the Company’s Public Service Commission-approved rate case in 2023.
“Meeting today’s energy needs requires significant investments in our grid,” said Marc Geaumont, president of NYSEG. “One of our top priorities is to ensure reliable power for the communities we serve. The former Milo Substation in Penn Yan was approximately 70 years old, and our new substation will expand possibilities in Yates County for years to come.”
The Milo Substation, located on Second Milo Road in Penn Yan, was originally constructed in the late 1950s. NYSEG’s rebuild of this substation includes a new 14 MVA transformer, which will help accommodate increased energy demands in the community, plus another five miles of updated distribution lines. The upgrades will benefit residential and commercial customers, including the Penn Yan Airport. This rebuild will also accommodate future energy needs because the new substation can accept an additional circuit, if necessary.
