NYSEG Crews Making Progress
Snowy conditions persist as crews work on restoration
To report outages or downed power lines, customers are urged to call NYSEG at 1.800.572.1131
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — March 14, 2023 — 5 p.m. — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) is making significant progress after snowfall associated with Winter Storm Sage impacted the region today. Currently, approximately 13,100 customers in the company’s Mechanicville division and 742 in its Brewster division are without power. The Mechanicville division includes areas of Columbia, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Washington counties. The Brewster division includes areas of Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester counties. NYSEG expects this may be a multiple day event and will provide restoration times once the extent of the damage is more thoroughly assessed.
Crews continue to respond to outages and assess damage. Impacts from the storm include downed trees and transmission lines, which has caused damage and delayed travel for crews. As the storm makes its way through the area with gusty winds and additional snow expected overnight, trees may continue to come down, making some areas inaccessible. Crews were pre-staged in the region this week in anticipation of the storm, and resources have been moved throughout the day to the areas of greatest need.
The Company is urging customers to limit travel unless necessary and avoid areas with downed trees. The company’s storm response team is fully engaged and crews will continue to work throughout the week, until every customer is restored. The Company is coordinating response efforts with state and local emergency management authorities.
