NYSEG Crews Nearing Full Restoration

More than 101,000 New York customers lost power over two-day event

Most customers still affected can expect service to be restored by this evening

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — December 20, 2025 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) continues to restore power to customers affected Thursday and Friday by sustained and gusting winds that brought down trees, power lines, and utility poles across the region, with some wind gusts exceeding 60 miles per hour. In total, more than 101,000 customers statewide were impacted during the storm, with fewer than 1,600 customers remaining without power as of midday today. Most customers still affected can expect service to be restored by this evening.

Working around the clock, NYSEG crews restored service to approximately 95 percent of affected customers in less than 36 hours, despite widespread wind-related damage. The hardest-hit areas included the Company’s Brewster, Lancaster, Mechanicville, Oneonta, and Plattsburgh divisions.

NYSEG understands how disruptive outages can be, especially during the holiday season, and remains focused on restoring power to every customer without power as quickly and safely as possible. Most customers still affected can expect service to be restored by this evening. Customers are encouraged to view NYSEG’s Estimated Time of Restoration for location-specific updates.

Crews will continue to assess damage and work closely with emergency responders to complete critical repairs, including setting replacement poles and repairing downed power lines. Restoration efforts will continue until service is fully restored to all customers.

NYSEG urges customers to remain away from storm debris as it may contain downed wires or other damaged equipment. Customers should assume all downed wires are energized and dangerous and should be reported by calling NYSEG’s emergency line at 1.800.572.1131 or contacting 911.

NYSEG will provide regular updates to the general public until complete restoration via the company’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and X/Twitter). The company also offers customers the following reminders to stay safe if power outages do occur.

As restoration is completed: As restoration is completed, NYSEG encourages any customer still without power to contact NYSEG at 1.800.572.1131  to report the issue and allow crews to investigate. Once every customer is restored, the Company will continue to fix remaining damage that occurred, but did not affect customers or the reliability of service.
