9:00 p.m. NYSEG Crews to Continue Working Overnight as Severe Rain Creates Challenges
NYSEG expands workforce to more than 760 field personnel
Crews restore 17,000+ customers today despite ongoing weather impacts
Binghamton, NY — July 6, 2026 9 p.m. — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) crews will continue to work overnight to restore service to the 2,139 customers who remain without power in the company’s Brewster Division, which includes Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester counties. NYSEG has deployed an additional 57 field crews to accelerate restoration efforts, increasing its restoration workforce to more than 760 field personnel across the region.
Today’s severe rainfall created challenging conditions for field crews, with some areas receiving as much as seven to eight inches of rain. The ongoing weather also resulted in additional power outages across the region. Despite these difficult conditions, crews restored service to more than 17,000 customers today, including approximately 14,000 customers impacted by newly reported outages. Restoration efforts will continue overnight, with crews focused on setting new poles, repairing damaged power lines, and restoring service to remaining customers as safely and quickly as possible.
Earlier today, NYSEG announced it expects to restore most impacted customers by 4 p.m. tomorrow, July 7, 2026. Customers are encouraged to check their account for their specific estimated time of restoration, which will be refined as restoration work continues.
NYSEG encourages any customer without power after restoration is complete to contact the company at 800.572.1131 to report the issue and allow crews to investigate. Once every customer is restored, the company will continue to fix remaining damage that occurred but did not affect customers or the reliability of service. That will then be followed by a full system sweep of all affected circuits to look for damage or issues that may have been missed but that could cause service disruptions in the future, such as tree limbs on power lines or leaning trees.
NYSEG urges customers to remain away from storm debris as it may contain downed wires or other damaged equipment. Customers should assume all downed wires are energized and dangerous and should be reported by calling NYSEG’s emergency line at 1.800.572.1131 or contacting 911.
