Informational displays and NYSEG representatives will be available to share more details about the installation process, answer questions, and demonstrate the benefits of having smart meters to customers.

All residential and most business customers in NYSEG’s service areas will receive the new electric smart meter and/or natural gas module. Smart meters use two-way wireless communications to securely enable detailed hourly usage information and meter status. As a result, there will be no need for bill estimates or onsite visits, and customers will no longer need to read their own meter each month. Smart meters also allow NYSEG to pinpoint and respond to outages more quickly. Once a smart meter is installed, customers can view its Energy Manager tool to track individual energy use down to the hour. Energy Manager also provides customized recommendations to save energy and reduce costs.

NYSEG expects to complete smart meter installations later this year for this area. Customers will receive information about their installation before they begin in their neighborhood.
