NYSEG Hosting Smart Meter Open Houses in the Plattsburgh Area

Informational open house for customers at Town of Jay Community Center Gymnasium to learn about the ongoing installation of smart meters

More than one million smart meters have already been installed across New York State

Plattsburgh, N.Y. — April 25, 2025 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) customers in  the Plattsburgh area, which includes portions of Clinton, Essex, Franklin, and Hamilton counties, can learn more about smart meters in an upcoming open house at the Town of Jay Community Center Gymnasium on April 29. There will be an additional open house scheduled in July.

Company representatives will provide residents, business owners and municipal officials with information about installations, including the scope of work, timeline, and customer benefits.

There is no formal presentation. Customers are invited to come at any time during the event and talk to project representatives about smart meter installations.

Tuesday, April 29, 2025

Town of Jay

Community Center Gymnasium

11 School Lane

Au Sable Forks, NY 12912

4:30-6:30 p.m.

Registration for the open houses is not required and all are welcome.

Informational displays and NYSEG representatives will be available to share more details about the installation process, answer questions, and demonstrate the benefits of having smart meters to customers.

All residential and most business customers in NYSEG’s service areas will receive the new electric smart meter and/or natural gas module. Smart meters use two-way wireless communications to securely enable detailed hourly usage information and meter status. As a result, there will be no need for bill estimates or onsite visits, and customers will no longer need to read their own meter each month. Smart meters also allow NYSEG to pinpoint and respond to outages more quickly. Once a smart meter is installed, customers can view its Energy Manager tool to track individual energy use down to the hour. Energy Manager also provides customized recommendations to save energy and reduce costs.

NYSEG expects to complete smart meter installations later this year for this area. Customers will receive information about their installation before they begin in their neighborhood.
