NYSEG Powers Up Modernized Dingle Ridge Substation, Enhancing Grid Resilience

$30 million of upgrades to Dingle Ridge substation and surrounding lines will increase capacity and reliability for Brewster area customers

BREWSTER, N.Y. — November 7, 2025 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) today announced the energization of the Dingle Ridge substation that serves the Brewster area. The substation upgrades along with upcoming surrounding line improvements total $30 million worth of investments to the area.

“Investments like the ones at Dingle Ridge are essential for New York to continue to be an energy leader,” said Marc Geaumont, president of NYSEG. “New York’s grid is aging and substation improvements are a way we can address reliability issues. These investments also increase capacity and allow business and development to continue to grow in the community.”

The Dingle Ridge substation, located in Brewster, provides energy to more than 700 customers. To keep the delivery of electricity safe and reliable for homes and businesses, the Company installed two new 22.4MVA transformers at the substation. These upgrades help manage the power coming from generators and ensure it’s ready for everyday use. The additional capacity enabled by the new equipment will not only allow for economic growth and electrification in the area, but also enhance reliability.

In addition to the new transformers, the substation received a 46 kV bus with a tie breaker and a new control building. These investments will enhance the substations' capabilities, specifically by creating safer and more efficient methods and tools for storm recovery.

Line work will also be taking place around the substation to improve the reliability to the more than 700 customers served by the substation.

NYSEG has invested more than $378 million on major capital projects since May 2023. The Company regularly invests hundreds of millions of dollars into ongoing maintenance, customer-focused programs, compliance programs and standards, smart meters, safety, and other improvements. Avangrid, the parent company of NYSEG and RG&E, continues to emphasize grid rebuilding efforts in New York. Avangrid plans to invest $7 billion in the grid through 2030.

“The energization of NYSEG’s new equipment at the Dingle Ridge Substation is an important investment in the resiliency of our local utility infrastructure. This network improvement can help ensure that customers receive the reliable service they deserve,” said NYS Senator Pete Harckham.

“The completion of this project signifies another investment by NYSEG that will fortify and modernize our grid. These projects will ensure the safety and reliable delivery of electricity to our residents," said NYS Assemblymember Matt Slater

"Understanding the mandates that New York State is imposing on NYSEG and other power companies, it’s clear that these requirements place a significant financial burden on residents. Nevertheless, I truly believe that NYSEG is at the forefront of the necessary efforts to modernize and strengthen our energy infrastructure. The improvements for the Dingel Ridge Substation are essential to ensuring reliable service and supporting the growth and stability of the Southeast community," said Southeast Town Supervisor Nick Durante.
