NYSEG Provides Update on Restoration of Gas Service to Customers in Steuben County
BINGHAMTON, NY — January 22, 2019 — NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), continues to work to restore service to impacted customers in Dundee, Hammondsport, Tyrone and Wayne who lost gas service due to a loss of gas supply. More than 135 field personnel, including mutual assistance crews from Connecticut Natural Gas, Con Edison, Corning Natural Gas, National Fuel, New Jersey Natural Gas, and Orange and Rockland, have been going from house to house to restore service. As of 5:00 p.m., crews have confirmed restoration of 321 of 580 active accounts. NYSEG anticipates having service restored to all of the impacted homes with active service accessible by Company personnel by tonight.
There are approximately 192 gas accounts that have been visited but Company personnel have been unable to access the customer’s residence. The Company is contacting those customers to arrange for Company personnel to restore service.
“Our reconnect crews were given the goal of visiting each customer location without service to reconnect or attempt to reconnect if the customer was not present. All those contacts have been made today and will continue to be made until we can ensure all gas services are restored,” said Mike Eastman, Vice President – Gas Operations.
While service is being restored, customers can go to the Emergency Warming Center set up through the American Red Cross at the Hammondsport Fire Department, located at 8521 State Route 54 until 9:00 p.m. tonight.
Customers are reminded to call NYSEG at 800.572.1121 to report gas leaks, odors or damaged gas equipment. If you smell gas or suspect a leak, leave the area or building and call from outdoors or a neighbor’s home. If there’s an immediate danger, call 911.
