NYSEG’s Completed Buffalo Street Gate Station in Olean Provides Reliable Gas for Customers
Project will benefit 7,500 customers in Olean by modernizing gas delivery and featuring newer technology
LANCASTER, N.Y. — March 09, 2026 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) has completed the construction of the Buffalo Street Gate Station project that provides reliable gas to approximately 7,500 customers in Cattaraugus County.
“Our completion of the Buffalo Street Gate Station came at the perfect time for our customers,” said David Bovee, senior project manager of Major Construction for NYSEG. “With winter weather on the top of our minds, this project helps ensure customers have a reliable energy option even during the most severe cold snaps.”
The Buffalo Street Gate Station is located in Olean and was built on a former brownfield location that NYSEG purchased in 2025. The new gate station receives natural gas from a high-pressure transmission pipeline and prepares it for distribution to customers. It features modernized equipment including regulators, odorizers, pressure relief valves, and other related infrastructure within a newly constructed building.
This project eliminated the need for eight miles of pipeline and two regulator stations and is another example of NYSEG’s commitment to strengthening the distribution system’s reliability for its customers. Since 2023, NYSEG has prioritized investing in projects which help keep the power on and gas flowing to homes and businesses.
