Brewster: NYSEG Continues Restoration Effort, Announces Estimated Times of Restoration - 12 noon

Company triples field resources, covering all remaining incidents

BINGHAMTON, New York — August 28, 2020, 12 noon — NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc., announced that they expect to restore 95% of customers impacted by yesterday’s thunderstorms by 10 p.m. tonight. Currently, approximately 2,000 customers impacted are without power in the company’s Brewster division, which includes Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties. Earlier today, the company released its daily work plan , which outlined the operational expectations for the day, including that the company had worked to triple the number of field resources for the response. Factoring into the estimated restoration times are isolated areas where damage assessments indicate severe impact, including downed trees, broken poles and downed wires as a result of yesterday’s thunderstorms and winds.

As NYSEG continues to make restorations the company cautioned that some customers may experience short interruptions (and outage counts will fluctuate) as crews may need to de-energize portions of the system to safely restore others. The company continues to be in close contact with local municipalities and continues to closely coordinate its response effort with state and local emergency management officials.

Recognizing that many residents are currently home due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, for everyone’s safety, the company asks customers to observe a six-foot social distance if they must be near workers and always remain outside the work zone. Allowing crews to remain uninterrupted and focused on their work enables workers to determine damage and make repairs more quickly and safely.

NYSEG will continue to provide updates throughout the event to the general public on the company’s social media channels (Facebook and Twitter). The company also offers customers the following reminders to prepare for the storm and stay safe if power outages do occur.
