Oneonta, NY, May 12, 2009 – Nearly 500 fourth-graders from Oneonta and the surrounding area are visiting NYSEG’s customer service center on Country Club Road this week for the company’s “Power of Safety” program.

Now in its 11th year, the program is based on fourth-grade curriculum and includes a video, discussions about electrical safety and a live-line demonstration.

“Our line mechanics become teachers for a few hours,” said Kathy King, NYSEG’s manager - regional operations in Oneonta. “We use an energized replica of an electrical system to help children learn how electricity travels and how to stay out of its way. We emphasize the vital importance of safety and our experience over the years tells us this is valuable information for students.”
