NYSEG and Lockheed Martin Continuing to Test Aerial Damage Assessment Imaging
Brewster, NY – NYSEG, a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, and Lockheed Martin are working in conjunction with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to determine how various imaging technologies deployed in a low-flying helicopter may assist utilities in collecting information on damage to electricity delivery systems following storms. Detailed damage information is critical to developing plans for safe and efficient restoration of service.
Tomorrow and Thursday, Lockheed Martin will test the technologies along 14 NYSEG distribution circuits in Westchester County. On Friday, flights are planned in the Binghamton area.
“Working with Lockheed Martin on this application could provide invaluable assistance to us in responding to storm emergencies and restoring service quickly and efficiently,” said Mark S. Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E.
