NYSEG’s New Luther Forest Substation Helps Ensure Reliable Service, Supports Growth
Mechanicville, NY – NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID (NYSE: AGR), recently energized its new $14 million Luther Forest Substation, providing an additional source of power for the company’s Mechanicville Division and support for growth in the Luther Forest Industrial Park. The substation, adjacent to National Grid’s substation, currently serves approximately 8,000 customers formerly served by NYSEG’s Mulberry Substation.
“We are pleased to have completed this important reliability project that also supports economic development at Luther Forest,” said Mark S. Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “This is another example of our continuing investment in infrastructure to help ensure safe, reliable service. Over the last five years, NYSEG has invested more than $1.1 billion dollars in our electricity and natural gas delivery systems across our service area.”
Work on the Luther Forest Substation began in 2013.
The substation is monitored in real-time 24 hours a day, seven days week from NYSEG’s Energy Control Center in Binghamton.
Note: A substation is an assemblage of equipment used to direct power and change or regulate voltage. Generally speaking, high-voltage transmission lines enter substations and lower voltage distribution lines exit substations to serve customers.
