Why is NYSEG involved?

The development of PHEV and EV technology is a new opportunity for NYSEG to provide leadership in an area that is critical from an economic and environmental perspective. NYSEG believes it is in the best interest of our stakeholders to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to improve sustainability. As a result, NYSEG is looking at technology, such as electric vehicles, as part of our commitment to reduce the impact on Global Climate Change. PHEVs and EVs offer us the opportunity to dramatically reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and the emission of greenhouse gases from their consumption.

NYSEG is proactively evaluating how PEV’s can be integrated into the electric grid. This might include aligning vehicle charging with renewable energy production and establishing rates that incentivize charging at the times that are most beneficial for the grid.
