NYSEG Responding as Strong Winds Continue

Severe winds cause power outages across Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester counties

BREWSTER, N.Y. — November 30, 2022, 5:30 PM — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) is responding as severe winds continue to impact the region this evening. Currently, approximately 5,184 customers in the company’s Brewster division, which includes Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester counties, are without power. With strong winds expected to continue through tomorrow morning, additional service disruptions are possible. The company’s storm response teams are fully engaged and had pre-staged crews earlier today in advance of the storm. Additionally, NYSEG is moving additional crews from less impacted areas of the state to the Brewster division to support its restoration efforts.

Severe winds are expected to continue throughout the night and into Thursday morning. Crews are currently working to assess the damage, make safe downed wires, clear fallen tree debris from the roads and restore power, when it is safe and possible to do so. The company is also coordinating response efforts with state and local emergency management authorities.

Early reports from the field indicate damage from the storm includes downed power lines and broken poles. The company urges customers to remain away from storm debris, as it may contain downed wires or other damaged equipment. All downed wires should be assumed as energized and be reported by calling NYSEG’s emergency line at 1.800.572.1131 or contacting 911.

NYSEG will continue to provide updates throughout the event to the general public on the company’s social media channels (Facebook and Twitter). The company also offers customers the following reminders to stay safe if power outages do occur.

Stay Away From Downed Wires

  • Stay at least 30 feet from a downed power line.
