NYSEG Provides Update on Power Restoration in Liberty and Brewster Divisions - 11 a.m.

BREWSTER, NY - March 6, 2018, 11:00 a.m.  NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc., continues this morning to execute its plan of restoring service to more than 90 percent of affected customers by this evening. The company is bringing in an additional 340 line workers to supplement the personnel already at work in our hardest hit areas. NYSEG currently has more than 2,000 personnel responding to storm efforts including crews and contractors who are working on repairs to the remaining 200 wires and 123 broken poles. Since the start of this event, more than 86,000 customers have been affected. As of 10:30 am, approximately 41,000 customers have had their service restored.

Our goal is to get our customers back to their daily routines, said Carl A. Taylor, President and CEO of NYSEG. The primary focus for our crews and contractors today is on repair and restoration.

The company continues to shift resources to the affected areas and will do so until power is restored to every customer. NYSEG also wants to remind everyone to stay away from downed power lines because even lines that appear dead can be dangerous.

Safety After a Storm

  • Stay out of flooded or damp basements or other areas if water is in contact with outlets, a furnace or any electrically operated appliance that is energized. The water or moisture may conduct electricity. Contact may cause serious or fatal injury.
  • You may have a lot of tree debris in your yard following a storm. Wait until power line repairs are complete before you begin your storm cleanup.
  • Turn on appliances and sensitive electronic equipment one at a time to avoid overloading circuits.
  • Replenish emergency supplies used during the storm.
