Home Energy Assistance Program

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federal grant program that helps eligible households pay for energy costs, repairs and weatherization.

Income eligible customers may receive one regular HEAP benefit per season. In addition to regular HEAP, the household may also be eligible for emergency HEAP benefits. The number of emergency benefits varies per season depending on the availability of funds.

For more information or to apply for a HEAP grant, visit http://otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/.

HEAP Regular Arrears Supplement Benefit is currently open
The Regular Arrears Supplement Benefit helps HEAP-eligible households pay for gas and/or electricity utility arrears. The Regular Arrears Supplement is a one-time benefit based on the actual amount of current utility arrears, up to a maximum of $10,000 per household. Benefits are paid directly to the household’s gas and/or electric utility vendor(s). Secured through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, this new federal funding comes as the end of the moratorium on utility disconnections approaches in late December.

Emergency HEAP will open January 3, 2022
