NYSEG and RG&E Restore Power to More Than 40,000 Customers Following Thunderstorms - 7 p.m.

BINGHAMTON, NY  May 5, 2018 7:00 p.m. NYSEG and RG&E, subsidiaries of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), continue to make progress following a significant thunderstorm on Thursday. The storm resulted in more than 70,000 outages affecting both homes and businesses. As of 7:00 p.m., 40,000 customers affected by the storm have been restored.

  • Customers in all NYSEG and RG&E divisions other than the Plattsburgh Division affected by the windstorm (portions of Broome, Chenango, Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Herkimer, Otsego, Rensselaer, Sullivan and Tioga Counties): 100% restored on Sunday, May 6 at 11:45 p.m. with the exception of a handful of isolated customers.
  • Customers in NYSEG's Plattsburgh division (portions of Clinton, Essex, Franklin and Hamilton Counties): 90% restored by 11:45 p.m. on Monday, May 7.

There are currently more than 1,500 personnel responding to the storm. Crews and contractors including those from assisting utilities out of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Canada are expected to continue to work on restoration efforts until all customers are restored.

As a result of the storm which brought rains and heavy wind gusts reaching 60 mph, there were more than 400 reported downed wires. Customers are asked to stay away from downed wires. NYSEG customers should call 1.800.572.1131 and RG&E customers are asked to call 1.800.743.1701 to report downed power lines or other hazardous situations.

The companies will provide updates to the general public including dry ice or shelters on NYSEG.com or RGE.com as well as the company's Twitter and Facebook pages as information becomes available.

Safety After a Storm

  • Stay out of flooded or damp basements or other areas if water is in contact with outlets, a furnace or any electrically operated appliance that is energized. The water or moisture may conduct electricity. Contact may cause serious or fatal injury.
  • You may have a lot of tree debris in your yard following a storm. Wait until power line repairs are complete before you begin your storm cleanup.
  • Turn on appliances and sensitive electronic equipment one at a time to avoid overloading circuits.
  • Replenish emergency supplies used during the storm.
