NYSEG and RG&E Restoration Effort Underway as Storm Continues - 4:30 p.m.

Customers Urged To Avoid Downed Lines and Report Outages

BINGHAMTON, NY— March 2, 2018, 4:30 pm  — NYSEG and RG&E, subsidiaries of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), continue restoration efforts following heavy snow and gusty winds that began this morning and are intensifying in areas across the Companies territories. The ongoing snow storm, increasing winds and fallen tree limbs are continuing to cause outages across the state. These conditions have also slowed travel and are causing difficult working conditions. NYSEG and RG&E expect to have a Global Estimated Time of Restoration available by this evening for areas where the storm has passed.

As of 4 p.m., approximately 110,000 outages are affecting both homes and businesses in the NYSEG and RG&E service areas. Company and contractor line and tree crews are working to make conditions safe and restore power as quickly as possible.  Some of the hardest hit areas are Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Erie, Greene, Livingston, Monroe, Otsego, Putnam, Rensselaer, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, Ulster, Wayne, Westchester, and Yates counties.

There are more than 1,000 personnel responding to the storm and additional resources traveling to affected areas. Crews and contractors are expected to continue to work on restoration efforts until all customers are restored.

Stay Away From Downed Wires

  • Stay at least 20 feet from a downed power line.
  • If a downed wire comes in contact with your vehicle, stay inside and wait for help. If you must get out because of fire or other danger, jump clear of the vehicle to avoid any contact with the vehicle and the ground at the same time. Land with your feet together and hop with feet together or shuffle away; don't run or stride.
  • NYSEG customers should call 1.800.572.1131 to report downed power lines or other hazardous situations.
