NYSEG Provides Update on Restoration Efforts in Brewster and Liberty Divisions
Majority of Customers to be Restored by Tomorrow Evening
BREWSTER, NY May 18, 2018 9:00 p.m. NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), continues to make considerable progress repairing damage from this week's severe thunderstorm and area tornadoes that impacted more than 100,000 customers. Due to collaborative efforts of company, contractor and mutual assistance personnel, NYSEG anticipates restoring the majority of the remaining 11,000 customers in six counties who remain without power by 11:45 p.m. tomorrow night with the exception of a few small pockets of customers in highly damaged areas that require rebuilding of customer and company infrastructure. Customers may experience temporary service interruptions over the next day if crews need to de-energize portions of the system to safely complete restoration work to other customers.
NYSEG currently has more than 1,800 personnel responding to the storm with crews assigned to every outage. NYSEG continues to work closely with local and state emergency management personnel and appreciates the coordinated efforts shown in this recovery effort.
NYSEG President and CEO Carl A. Taylor said, We're encouraged with the progress made thus far given the amount of damage to the system and will continue our push to restore power to all customers. Our dedicated restoration team is committed to getting this work completed as quickly as possible.
Current customer outages by county are as follows:
Crews continue repairing the 1,721 downed wires and 567 broken poles as well as transmission segments impacted by the storm. Until restoration is complete, NYSEG will continue to work with elected and municipal officials at all levels of government to coordinate shelters, dry ice and bottled water distribution, and to manage downed wires, road openings, staging areas for our equipment and crews, and restoration of critical facilities.
NYSEG urges customers to stay away from downed power lines because even lines that appear dead can be dangerous. Customers with large amounts of tree debris in their yard should wait until power line repairs are complete before beginning their storm cleanup. To report a downed line or power interruption, contact NYSEG at 1-800-572-1131. Anyone who has access to a working computer or mobile device during a power interruption can also report the interruption online at nyseg.com.
For outage and restoration information customers can visit NYSEG Outage Central or get the latest updates on Facebook & Twitter. Dry ice continues to be delivered and NYSEG is working with the counties and local municipalities to distribute and share information.
