NYSEG and RG&E Preparing for Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds
BINGHAMTON, NY — June 13, 2018 2 p.m. — NYSEG and RG&E, subsidiaries of AVANGRID (NYSE: AGR), are monitoring weather forecasts and have mobilized their storm readiness teams in advance of a potential series of thunderstorms forecasted to begin Wednesday afternoon and continue overnight into Thursday.
Preparation efforts include readying line and tree crews and equipment, and staging additional out-of-state line resources to assist company crews as needed. The company is reaching out to municipal partners, critical facilities, and customers who rely on electrically powered life-sustaining equipment to ensure they are prepared.
All customers are urged to be attentive to weather reports and prepare for the possibility of service interruptions, as well as avoid any downed wires or other unsafe conditions. NYSEG and RG&E encourage customers to sign up for Outage Alerts to receive updates automatically by phone, text, or email as the company updates the status of any restoration progress specific to their electricity service. Power Restoration Priorities
NYSEG’s and RG&E’s first priorities are to respond to known incidents of downed power lines to make the situations safe. (NYSEG customers are asked to call 1.800.572.1131 to report downed wires. RG&E customers are asked to call 1.800.743.1701.) Once this vital public safety work is complete, the company will assess the damage to the electricity delivery system and develop a detailed restoration plan. Crews will make repairs and restore power to all affected customers as quickly as possible.
