Big Tree Substation Expansion

As part of our commitment to provide safe, affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy to all of our customers, New York State Electric & Gas (“NYSEG”) is updating our delivery system in our service areas.

NYSEG is launching multi-year energy grid upgrades that will ensure compliance with new mandatory reliability requirements. These projects will create a more reliable and resilient energy grid by upgrading key substations and transmission infrastructure to meet the reliability and growing needs of our communities and the energy demands of the local economy.

Currently, NYSEG is planning upgrades in Orchard Park.

The project will involve an expansion of the existing substation and will be constructed adjacent to and north of the existing location. The substation’s existing 115kV transmission lines will be reconfigured along with transmission line reroutes required to establish connection between the existing lines and the substation.

The upgraded and expanded facilities will meet the growing demand for additional power in the Buffalo region and the additional energy brought into the area by the project will encourage and support expanded economic development. The upgrades will improve the reliability and resiliency of the entire transmission system, ensuring that the safe and reliable distribution of power is maintained.
